Mr Sven Gotovac, PhD, the dean of FESB: 'FESB is a modern institution for higher education, science and research, which is oriented towards the development and application of the latest technologies, having a strategic commitment to achieve high global standards in science and research, higher education and high-profile activities. A key prerequisite to achieving these ambitious goals is cooperation with companies, such as Ericsson Nikola Tesla. In its plan for this year, FESB has in cooperation with the local community foreseen a demanding and challenging project under the name 'Smart Campus'. By establishing a communication and information 5G infrastructure and the environment for IoT requirements, an ecosystem for development and research in the field of modern technologies and solutions will be created, addressing the needs of academic community, students, local community and the economy. Ericsson Nikola Tesla has been and will be an important partner in the launching of such projects just as it has been in the project of joint laboratory equipped with next generation systems for information and communication technology.'

Ms Gordana Kovačević, MSc, president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, expressed her satisfaction with the continuation of cooperation: 'Connecting science and economy in a quality manner is a prerequisite for the development of the economy and society at large. It has been almost 19 years since we have signed the first contract with FESB and started our cooperation. We have cooperated in the field of research continuously through projects; so far we have implemented more than 20 joint research projects. FESB students have participated in the Summer Camp since 2008, and after their graduation, a large number of the students found a job at our company. I am pleased with the strengthening of the cooperation because the laboratory is becoming a key place where innovative experts can work on the development of new technologies. I would like to additionally emphasize the fact that the beginning of the work of our company in Split was directly linked to FESB since 37 years ago, the company's first premises were on the premises of this faculty.

Dinko Begušić, PhD, head of the department and sub-department for communication technologies and signal processing at FESB, responsible for cooperation with Ericsson Nikola Tesla: 'In the course of the three decades of the development of cooperation between FESB and Ericsson Nikola Tesla in the field of information and communication technologies, noteworthy accomplishments were achieved for both institutions, as well as for the society at large. Numerous forms of cooperation have been developed in the field of science, teaching and high-profile activities. The modernized laboratory, equipped with next generation systems for information and communication technology, including 5G and IoT, will enable the improvement of cooperation in the field of science and teaching, as well as the development of innovation ecosystem. It is of special significance that throughout the availability of new technologies the students will be provided with conditions for a higher quality of teaching; moreover, new space for the inclusion of students into the research will be created.'

Darko Huljenić, PhD, Director of Research at Ericsson Nikola Tesla, said that the cooperation with FESB has changed its shape over the years: 'At the moment, we closely cooperate in several research projects, students' papers and PhD students' research papers. Also, we have placed a base station and several servers in the laboratory. This will enable creation and implementation of new ideas and obtaining new research results. We cooperate in the field of 5G technology, placing an emphasis on communication infrastructure, application of Internet of Things in various domains of creating new business systems with the aid of machine learning algorithms and cognitive systems (artificial intelligence). In this way we provide the students with the possibility to work on challenging research projects and we jointly create new technological solutions for a better and simpler life, as well as enable the creation of new jobs.'
