The donation was part of the hunger program created by the makers of SKIPPY® peanut butter in 2018. The program involves a partnership between Hormel Foods and grocery retailers across the country and is part of the company's philanthropic efforts that focus on hunger and education. The peanut butter - enough to make more than 370,000 peanut butter sandwiches, arrived at Harvesters - The Community Food Bank on Friday, Sept. 21.

Additionally, the donation was part of the many activities Hy-Vee has planned across its eight-state territory for National Family Meals Month.

'Through Hormel Food Corporation and its popular SKIPPY® brand, and the great work of Harvesters - the Community Food Network, we can all help play a role in addressing the issue of hunger here in the Kansas City metro area,' said Drew Holmes, senior regional vice president of Hy-Vee's Kansas City market. 'Hy-Vee and Hormel Foods care about our customers, and this is a great way to give back to our communities and to encourage families to eat a wholesome meal together during National Family Meals Month.'

'Protein is a much-needed item for households and peanut butter is a terrific protein option,' said Doug Johnston, senior customer executive at Hormel Foods. 'We want to thank Hy-Vee for joining this effort and thank the community food bank for its work serving the community. Hormel Foods and the SKIPPY® brand are proud to give back to the Kansas City metro area.'
