oneworld was recognised once again as the Best Airline Alliance in the leading Cellars in the Sky Awards, alongside several oneworld member airlines which won accolades for having the best wine in-flight.

Organised by magazine group Business Traveller in association with the International Wine Challenge, the Cellars in the Sky awards celebrate the best wines served in-flight by airlines in first and business class. The winners were unveiled in a ceremony in London on 24 February.

This is the 11th year in a row that oneworld has been awarded Best Airline Alliance in the awards, which were judged by a panel headed by co-chairman of the International Wine Challenge, Charles Metcalfe.

Several oneworld member airlines took home accolades in the awards. Malaysia Airlines won Best Overall Cellar and Best Business Class Cellar, while Qantas was awarded the Gold Medal for Best First Class Cellar.

For individual wines, Qantas won the Gold Medal for Best First Class White, American Airlines the Gold Medal for Best First Class Rose, and Malaysia Airlines the Gold Medal for Best Business Class Sparkling. Cathay Pacific subsidiary and oneworld affiliate Cathay Dragon won the Gold Medal for Best First Class Sparkling.

More than 30 airlines participated in the competition, which is now in its 34th year. The judging panel took part in blind tastings of 250 bottles of wine in November 2019, before scoring the wines independently over two days.
