Volkswagen AG's global deliveries fell in all regions except China in May, the company said Friday.

World-wide group sales for May fell 34% from a year earlier to 609,400 vehicles, Volkswagen said.

In China, vehicle sales rose 5.7% to 330,300, up from 312,600 vehicle sales in May 2019. These figures include sales in Hong Kong.

Sales in Western Europe were sharply lower, down 57% to 147,400 vehicles, while North America recorded a 39% drop to 52,800 from 86,600. South America was the worst-performing region in May, with sales down 69% to 17,000 vehicles.

Volkswagen's world-wide deliveries between January and May fell 30% to 3,089,000.

The Volkswagen group comprises a number of brands including Audi, Skoda, Porsche and the company's namesake Volkswagen passenger-car brand.

Of these brands, May 2020 sales in Volkswagen passenger cars fell 30% to 359,800 from a year earlier.

SEAT was the worst performing of Volkswagen's brands, recording a 65% fall in deliveries to customers to 19,100 vehicles from 54,400 a year earlier.
