Strong UK Wage Growth Could Prompt Higher-Than-Expected BOE Rate Rise

0851 GMT - The U.K. job market is showing signs of cooling, but upward pressure on inflation coming from rising salaries continues to grow, Capital Economics U.K. economist Ashley Webb says in a note. The strength in wage growth, together with a larger-than-expected GDP increase in October, might further tilt some Bank of England officials toward thinking about raising interest rates by 75 basis points on Thursday, he says. "This is the second data release in two days that might increase the chances of the Monetary Policy Committee repeating November's 75bps hike, instead of delivering the smaller 50bps rise that we and most others are expecting," Webb says.
