Target Corp. Chief Information Officer Michael McNamara said he intends to retire next year.

Mr. McNamara joined the big-box retailer in 2015, taking the reins from prior CIO Bob DeRodes who helped guide the company through a large data breach in 2013. Prior to Target, he was the information chief at U.K.-based supermarket chain Tesco PLC.

Since joining the company, Mr. McNamara has helped bring the retailer's software development in-house and focus on technology projects that help drive revenue growth, such as those related to online shopping and same-day delivery or pickup.

Combined traffic to Target's stores and website increased 12.7% for the second quarter.

Mr. McNamara will remain in the CIO position until the company can find a replacement and will also help facilitate the transition, the company said in a securities filing.

Corrections & Amplifications

This item was corrected at 4:43 p.m. ET to show that Bob DeRodes, who served as Target Chief Information Officer from 2014 to 2015, helped guide the company following its late 2013 data breach. An earlier version incorrectly implied that it was McNamara who helped this effort.
