Mr. Iarossi is a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy.
In 1965 he graduated from the Rackam School of Graduate Studies at the University of Michigan with master's degrees in naval architecture and in mechanical engineering.
In 1971 he graduated from New York University with an MBA degree in international business.
He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree from New York's Webb Institute in June 2001 in recognition of his efforts to strengthen and advance the state of marine safety.
Mr. Iarossi was on active duty as a Coast Guard officer from 1959 to 1968.
He joined Esso International in 1968 in its marine research division and served in numerous positions with Exxon affiliates.
From 1982 to March 1990, he was the President of Exxon Shipping Company.
