BONN/NEW DELHI/NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) - The logistics group DHL expects accelerated growth in global trade this year. 2024 has considerable potential for a further increase in global flows, the Bonn-based DAX-listed company announced on Wednesday. After reaching a record high in 2022, the share of global economic output attributable to international trade weakened last year - now it is likely to pick up again. Despite the increased geopolitical risks, the global company does not see a shift towards regionalization, i.e. shorter supply chains.

DHL regularly commissions the DHL Global Connectedness Report, which analyzes international trade, capital, information and people flows. "Deglobalization is still a risk - but not currently a reality," said Steven Altman, a researcher at the New York University Stern School of Business, which collects the data.

The latest evaluations show that "international flows continue to grow and very few countries are cutting ties with existing partners", Altman continued. According to the report, only in North America is there a clear shift towards more regionalized trade patterns. In general, most international flows are moving over constant or longer distances, the report continued. In contrast, the proportion of flows within large geographical regions is decreasing./lew/tav/stk
