BOLOGNA AIRPORT: 740 THOUSAND PASSENGERS IN MARCH,

GROWTH OF 9.4% OVER MARCH 2023

Another month of growth for Bologna Marconi Airport: in March there were 739,284 passengers, with an increase of 9.4% on March 2023.

In detail, both passengers on national flights (170,433, +9.0% on March 2023) and passengers on international flights (568,851, +9.5% on the same month last year) recorded an increase. Movements, at 5,381, also grow on March 2023 (+4.9%). However, freight decreased, amounting to 3,737 tons (-7.1%).

The favorite destinations for Marconi passengers in March were: Catania, Tirana, Barcelona, Paris De Gaulle, Palermo, Madrid, Istanbul, London Heathrow, Bucharest and Rome Fiumicino.

In the first quarter of 2024, total passengers were 1,948,020, with an increase of 8.1% on the same period of 2023, while movements were 14,819, up by 5.7% on 2023.

Freight in the January-March period were 10,868 tons: +1.8% on 2023.

Meanwhile, work has begun on the expansion of the Schengen boarding hall, the modernization and redevelopment of the Security area and the construction of a new multi-storeycar park. At the end of the works, expected for next year, the Marconi will offer its passengers a completely renovated boarding lounge, with an increase in operational spaces by 82% and existing seats by 94% and an enlarged security area equipped with new x-ray machines that allow much faster and more effective hand baggage checks. The first of the two bodies of the new multi-storey car park will also be ready in 2025, which will have a total of 2,200 parking spaces.

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre-north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, recorded in 2023 around 10 million passengers, ranking as the seventh biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti - Aeroporti2030). As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in the parts of security checks and gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
