The group announces that two new research laboratories are currently under construction at its Sassenheim site in the Netherlands.

Work is about to begin on a technology center for powder coatings, while a new polymer laboratory has just opened its doors and will develop resin technologies for all the company's activities.

Total investment at the Sassenheim site, AkzoNobel's largest R&D center worldwide, amounts to around 8 million euros.

The plant is already home to Europe's largest R&D teams for the company's decorative paints and automotive and specialty coatings activities.

''The creation of the new powder coatings laboratory will enable us to conduct the fundamental research needed to continue to innovate and bring more sustainable products to market,'' said Roger Jakeman, AkzoNobel's Chief Technology Officer.
