On May 24, 2024, Amazon.com Inc. announced that it held its annual general meeting of shareholders on May 22, 2024, and declared voting results. Accordingly, a shareholder proposal submitted by John Harrington, requesting the Company to commission an independent study of Recognition and report to shareholders regarding: 1) the extent to which such technology may endanger, threaten or violate privacy and/or civil rights, and unfairly or disproportionately target or surveil people of color, immigrants and activists in the United States, 2) the extent to which such technologies may be marketed and sold to authoritarian or repressive governments, including those identified by the United States Department of State Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, 3) the potential loss of good will and other financial risks associated with these human rights issues was not approved at the annual general meeting of shareholders.
