American Electric Power Co. on Monday unveiled a series of management changes, including the appointment of new chief operating and financial officers.

The Columbus, Ohio, utility holding company said Lisa M. Barton, currently executive vice president of utilities, will become executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1.

AEP said Brian Tierney, currently executive vice president and chief financial officer, will become executive vice president of strategy on that date, while Julie Sloat, currently senior vice president of treasury and risk, will take over as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

AEP said the changes are designed to expand the experiences of key executives.

The company said Ms. Barton 55 years old, will continue to lead the activities of its utility operating companies, as well as the operations of its generation and transmission business units, and its procurement, supply-chain and fleet operations organization.

AEP said Mr. Tierney, 53, will lead its corporate strategy and operational and performance-management functions, while Ms. Sloat, 51, will assume responsibility for all other CFO functions.
