The Rugby League World Cup 2021 reached its climatic end this weekend as Australia took their third straight title in both the men's and women's games and England claimed the wheelchair trophy.

But the impact from this inclusive tournament is still very much alive.

As the official community health partner, we delivered a specialist grant programme funded by our Assura Community Fund to help charitable and voluntary sector organisations deliver health and wellbeing activities. In total we distributed over £95,000 to 20 grant recipients.

The grants have been put in place to educate and teach skills that will contribute towards improving emotional health and wellbeing, gaining support for life challenges, and providing increased activities and opportunities to improve self-confidence, self-esteem and belonging.

'The Thunder Fit programme encouraged rugby supporters from our communities of highest need to participate and engage in a safe and inclusive environment they are comfortable attending. The support given by the rugby club community both mentally and physically will enable a long-term impact of this project'
Newcastle Rugby Foundation

'This funding has supported veterans to access services and opportunities which have made a massive impact upon the needs of the ex-service people.'
Saints Community Development Foundation
