--Banco Santander SA is close to naming William Vereker as its new U.K. chairman, the Financial Times reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.

--Mr. Vereker, the former business envoy to former U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May, would succeed Shriti Vadera, who will step down later this year, according to the FT.

--The Spanish bank is expected to receive the final regulatory approval for the appointment by the end of the week, the FT says.
