BMW announced on Monday that it had launched the construction of a plant to produce high-voltage batteries in Rayong, a seaside resort in southeastern Thailand.

The German automotive group reports that the project - covering an area of 4.000 m2 - will involve an investment of 42 million euros, of which 36 million will be allocated to the purchase of latest-generation equipment and materials.

With the launch of this new site, BMW says it is preparing for local production of a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) model by the end of 2025.
