China Demeter Financial Investments Limited provided group earnings guidance for the three months ended 31 March 2020. For the period, the company is expected to record an increase in loss for the three months ended 31 March 2020 when compared with the loss of approximately HKD 5.1 million for the three months ended 31 March 2019. Based on the Board's preliminary assessment of the unaudited consolidated management accounts of the Company and the information currently available to the Group, the increase in loss for 2020 First Quarter was principally attributable to the combined effect of: the loss in fair value of financial assets through profit or loss in the Group's securities investment segment for 2020 First Quarter of approximately HKD 4.8 million as compared to a gain of approximately HKD 1.6 million for the corresponding period in 2019; an expected increase in loss in the Group's food and beverage business segment for 2020 First Quarter as a result of the weak market sentiment in Hong Kong due to the COVID-19 outbreak which have affected profitability of the business segment; and an expected loss recorded by the Group's provision of children education services business segment for 2020 First Quarter as a result of the class suspension of all schools announced by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong starting from early February 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
