Densitron Europe Ltd, London has recently completed the design and development of an E-paper based GPRS updatable bus timetable solution. This development has been undertaken for IBI Group working on behalf of Centro (West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive and Authority). Densitron has developed all the necessary drive electronics to enable a low power, remotely updatable assembly.
Densitron's engineering team have designed and developed the necessary timing control and power circuitry to drive the 10.2" E-paper displays along with the GPRS communications to enable RTI (real time information) to be updated to the bus stop as quickly as is needed.
Centro along with most transport providers / operators have a requirement to provide up to date and accurate timetable information on street. The system developed by IBI Group integrates with Centro's timetable and real-time information system to provide this information on the display unit. This consists of eight 10.2" E-Paper displays, all of which is done from a central control centre via GPRS communications. The system will be going live in July in the Oldbury area of the West Midlands
Future plans for the system include integration of disruption and diversion information, roadwork information, integration with other modes of transport i.e. trains and light rail and additional the system could be used to get information to the general public quickly i.e. if a child goes missing then then a picture of the child can be distributed to the displays immediately and ask for assistance from the public
Grahame Falconer, CEO of Densitron says "Following on from the announcement that we designed and manufactured the British Airways luggage tag, this indicates how many exciting projects we are working on with E-Paper"
