Just about a year after its parent company, Dollar Tree, hiked prices to $1.25 for items, Family Dollar aims to reduce prices to grab greater consumer attention and loyalty.

The news comes as competitiveness between Family Dollar and General Dollar, which hasn't raised prices, increases amidst inflation and pricing pressure for consumers, according to a CNN report.

While all the brands have "dollar" in their name and a good portion of products costing a dollar, Family Dollar's prices can be 10% to 15% higher than Dollar General, according to CNN.
