• Endesa X is to simultaneously build two photovoltaic self-consumption facilities at Kronospan's two plants in Spain (in Burgos and Salas) and which will have a total capacity of 7.45 MWp.
  • Its 18,000 PV modules, installed over an area equivalent in size to five football pitches, will generate 9 GWh and provide 5% of the energy required for its production processes with a clean and renewable energy source.
  • Endesa X expects to complete the project in the second half of the year.
  • The multinational Kronospan specialises in the manufacture and distribution of wood panels and has more than 40 production sites and 16 distribution centres in 30 countries.

Endesa, through its its subsidiary Endesa X, is to build one of the largest self-consumption projects in the sector and our country for Kronospan, an Austrian multinational specialising in the manufacture and distribution of wood panels.

The facility will have a capacity of 7.45 MWp and an output of 9.2 GWh, enabling it to supply approximately 5% of the energy required for its production processes with clean and renewable energy.

The project is being carried out by Endesa X on a turnkey basis and includes the calculation, design, manufacture, supply, transport, insurance, installation and start-up of both plants, a process that will be carried out simultaneously in two of the production centres that it has in Spain: Burgos and Salas. A total of more than 16,000 PV modules will be installed over an area of 36,000 m2, equivalent to five football pitches.

Almost 100% of the output of these facilities will be consumed by Kronospan, resulting in a 5% reduction in current grid consumption.

Thanks to this commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, Kronospan will succeed in making a qualitative leap in tandem with Endesa X and join the energy revolution, thus embarking on its own energy transition: it will be able to reduce its carbon footprint by around 3,200 tons of CO2/year, equivalent to planting 282,000 trees/year.

Self-consumption, along with other energy efficiency initiatives, will play a key role in decarbonisation in the area of households and the services sector. Endesa X helps customers to install solar photovoltaic technology which is completely tailored to their needs.
