ESSEN (dpa-AFX) - Germany's largest energy supplier Eon has reaffirmed its commitment to pass on falling wholesale prices to its customers in the future. "As soon as we have the leeway, we will pass on lower wholesale prices to our customers," said Eon CFO Marc Spieker at the balance sheet press conference in Essen on Wednesday. Eon has around 14 million electricity and gas customers in Germany.

Last fall, prices had already been reduced for millions of customers in the basic supply. "From today's perspective, if you look at the wholesale prices, we also believe that there will be no further price adjustments for the basic supply in the coming months," said Spieker. However, not all customers have the same contract. "There will still be one or two adjustments this year for one or two special contracts."

Where grid fees have increased, this has not been passed on to customers for the time being. In the long term, however, Eon will not be able to keep the issue of grid fees completely out of its costs. "We will look at this when the time comes. Then we will also look at the wholesale prices. And then we will see what that means for customers," said Spieker.

However, Eon intends to pass on the increase in VAT on natural gas from 7 to 19 percent on April 1 to all customers. The tax rate was lowered on October 1, 2022 to provide relief during the energy crisis./tob/DP/stk
