Rosseti FGC UES invests 5 bn rubles to upgrade Serpukhov power center near Moscow

12/29/2021

Comprehensive reconstruction of the 220 kV Oka substation, the main power supply facility in the Serpukhov urban district with a population of over 160,000 people, is now complete. The substation also provides a link between the Moscow and Tula power systems. In the course of the project, a new substation was built with a capacity of 526 MVA, which exceeds the capacity of the old one by 40%. A set of technical solutions was implemented to convert the facility to remote control.

Substation buildings and structures were erected, switchgears of 220, 110, 10 and 6 kV were assembled, power transformers and secondary switching systems installed, and power lines reconnected. All of the equipment passed HV tests. It completely replaced the outdated equipment of the power center, which was built in the late 1960s.

After comprehensive reconstruction, the Oka substation has been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility equipped with microprocessor-based relay protection terminals, automated process control and power metering systems, and digital communications.

Plans are made to convert the substation to remote control in 2022. This will enable even higher efficiency due to faster switching operations and minimized risk of human error.

The commissioning of the renovated 220 kV Oka substation significantly has increased the reliability of power supply to consumers in the Moscow Region. A capacity reserve has been created to hook up new consumers, which will contribute to the socio-economic development of the Serpukhov urban district.
