FINCANTIERI AMONG THE COMPANIES LEADING THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE

Two independent organizations score the Group effort in the highest range

Trieste, December 9, 2020 - Major independent non-profit organization for environmental reporting previously known as Carbon Closure Project, today CDP, scored Fincantieri A- for the activities carried out in the past year, moving the company up from its 2019 'B' score. Hence the Group enters the highest-merit range (in a scale from a minimum of 'D' to a maximum of 'A'), thus confirming its leadership position also within the fight against climate change.

CDP gathers and thoroughly processes data voluntarily submitted by listed companies, assessing both their performances and strategies. The CDP ranking is therefore a globally acknowledged competitive advantage. It is indeed a useful tool to get ahead of regulatory and policy changes, identify and tackle growing risks, and find new opportunities for action. Over 500 major investors, with overall assets exceeding 100 billion dollars, have already requested companies to inform the market about their sustainability stance through CDP.

Fincantieri has been confirmed in the highest range, namely "Advanced", also within the Vigeo Eiris ranking - the agency that assesses the integration of social, environmental and governance factors in the context of sustainability -, where it ranks first among its reference peers.

These results come only a few days after the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, publicly commended Fincantieri at the European Hydrogen Week held at the end of November, by saying that "Fincantieri represents an excellence in the new hydrogen economy".

Over the years, the Group has carried out many decarbonization research projects to investigate and test the feasibility of hydrogen technologies and fuel cells on board ships, resorting to both own resources and government-funded research and innovation programs. The latest project is ZEUS - Zero Emission Ultimate Ship, an experimental fuel-cell powered marine vessel. ZEUS - currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia and expected to be completed in 2021 - is the first of its kind in the world and it is one of the determining factors that led Fincantieri to be acknowledged internationally.

The challenges of innovation and sustainability are key to maintain the Group's global leadership in all the different high value-added sectors of naval engineering, while being committed to reducing emissions into the sea and the atmosphere.

Fincantieri is one of the world's largest shipbuilding groups and number one for diversification and innovation. It is leader in cruise ship design and construction and a reference player in all high-tech shipbuilding industry sectors, from naval to offshore vessels, from high-complexity special vessels and ferries to mega yachts, as well as in ship repairs and conversions, production of systems and mechanical and electrical component equipment, cruise ship interiors solutions, electronic systems and software, infrastructures and maritime constructions as well as after-sales services. With over 230 years of history and more than 7,000 vessels built, Fincantieri has always kept its management offices, as well as all its distinctive engineering and production skills, in Italy. With over 9,500 employees and a supplier network that employs nearly 50,000 people in Italy alone, Fincantieri has enhanced a fragmented production capacity over several shipyards into a strength, acquiring the widest portfolio of clients and products in the cruise business. To hold its own in relation to competition and assert itself at global level, Fincantieri has broadened its product portfolio becoming world leader in the sectors in which it operates.

The Group now has 18 shipyards operating in four continents, nearly 20,000 employees, and is the leading Western shipbuilder; its clients include the world's biggest cruise operators and the Italian and the US Navy as well as numerous foreign navies. Fincantieri is also a partner of some of the main European defence companies within supranational programs.

Fincantieri's business is widely diversified by end markets, geographical exposure and by client base, with revenue generated from cruise ship, naval vessel, Offshore and Specialized Vessel construction and from the supply of solutions for electronic systems and software and for maritime infrastructure and works. Compared with less diversified players, such diversification allows it to mitigate the effects of any fluctuations in demand on the end markets served.
