BOSTON (AP) _ General Electric Co. (GE) on Wednesday reported a loss of $1.14 billion in its third quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Boston-based company said it had a loss of 14 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and asset impairment costs, were 6 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 6 cents per share.

The industrial conglomerate posted revenue of $19.42 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $19.15 billion.

GE shares have dropped 36% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased almost 5%. The stock has decreased 22% in the last 12 months.
