Water management company Green Compliance has once again taken a market leading position by being the first in its sector to achieve the Supply Chain Sustainability School's Gold Status.

One of only 10 companies from the UK's construction, infrastructure and facilities management sectors to have achieved this demanding built environment award, Gold Status recognises Green Compliance's commitment to continuous sustainability improvement. It is also a reflection of the company's diligent approach to whole organisation sustainability learning and its drive to deliver sustainability improvements across its wider supply chain and client network.

The Supply Chain Sustainability School is a free to use resource developed to improve sustainability performance initially within the construction industry, but subsequently extended to also cover the facilities management and infrastructure sectors. It provides best supply chain sustainability practice guides, assessments, training events and networking for those working within the built environment.

Since its launch in 2012, the school's popularity and reach has grown quickly; it now has more than 8,000 members and 4,500 registered companies involved in its programmes. Of those that have been assessed, just 10 have achieved Gold Status, and represent the most sustainable organisations within the supply chain.

Green Compliance, now part of the Minimise Group of sustainable companies, signed up to the School in early 2014. As a company providing water management and sustainability products and services to both construction and facilities management clients, Green Compliance already had good sustainability practices in place. However, the company was aware that true sustainability can only be delivered through a programme of continuous learning, improvement and innovation. Signing up to the School provided the company with the framework to implement such a programme.

Green Compliance's existing practices met Bronze Status. A programme of engagement, training and company-wide involvement helped them to move to Silver Status.

In September 2014, the company's senior management team committed time and resource to a series of training modules, event attendance and re-assessments that would move it towards Gold Status. New opportunities and practices were identified and implemented, including a 'bike to work' programme, a review of the company's car and van fleet, and revisions to the company's supply chain procurement policy. Combined, these activities have resulted in Green Compliance being awarded Gold Status.

Commenting on the award, Mike Kennedy of Green Compliance and Group Director of Sales Operations for Minimise Group, said: "As a company that provides sustainable solutions to buildings' managers, facilities and construction partners, we understand that we have to lead by example. The Supply Chain Sustainability School provides us with access to best practice resources and networking and gives us the framework to achieve this ambition. By committing to its programme of ongoing assessment, we're constantly learning and looking for ways to improve. It keeps us on our toes.

"Just as importantly, it enables us to extend our learning to our partner organisations, Group companies and clients. Part of the School's objective is to cascade this learning through the industry, driving up sustainability standards. We support this 100%."

As a result of the programme Green Compliance's procurement policy now looks closely at supplier sustainability. This is the first stage in the company's objective to meet BS 8903: 2010 for sustainable procurement.

As part of the Minimise Group of companies, Green Compliance will now set about extending these Gold Status practices to all Minimise Group companies, ensuring that all adhere to the very best industry practices.

Shaun McCarthy OBE, Chair of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, is delighted that Green Compliance has embraced the requirements and opportunities of Membership and will now be bringing the wider Minimise Group companies into the programme. He said:

"Achieving Gold Status as a Member of the School requires company-wide engagement, a strategic understanding of supply chain issues and their application, plus commitment of time and resource. The pace at which Green Compliance has successfully integrated School learning into existing company policy and practice, then driven the agenda forward with ambition, sets a great example of achievement in their field and across the wider construction supply chain."
