FCC Austria Abfall Service AG has been awarded the contract for the transport and treatment of municipal waste from the West Tyrol Waste Treatment Association (ABV Abfallbeseitigungsverband Westtirol). The contract, which will start from 1 January 2022, has a term of 5 years extendable up to 5 more years and involves a portfolio of up to 33 million euros.

FCC Austria will be responsible for transporting the waste collected at the Roppen transfer station, managed by the contracting authority, to the waste energy recovery plant of FCC Zistersdorf Abfall Service GmbH (a 100% subsidiary of FCC Austria Abfall Service AG), where it will be thermally recycled in accordance with legal conditions and official requirements.

Environmentally friendly treatment and transport processes

The material transported and subsequently treated consists mainly of municipal and bulky household waste, commercial waste, screening of wastewater treatment plants and screening overflows from the mechanical pretreatment of bio-waste.

The transfer of the nearly 20,000 tons of waste per year will be carried out through a MOBILER intermodal system of containers of 53 m3. Although in a first phase of 7km, to the Austrian Railways station (OBB) of Otztal, it will be done by road with tractor head - semi-trailer sets, most of the route (634 km) will be carried out by rail. This solution proposed by FCC Environment is extremely respectful of the environment and involves avoiding the emission of more than 1,400 tons of CO every year.2.
