Infineon Technologies AG has acquired Syntronixs Asia Sdn. Bhd., an electroplating company based in Melaka, Malaysia.

The German chip maker said Monday that it has taken over the company through its subsidiary Infineon Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.

The companies didn't disclose financial terms for the deal, which is set to bolster Infineon's manufacturing footprint.

Syntronixs Asia specializes in precision electroplating, a key process in the assembly process of semiconductors. It has been a major service provider for Infineon since 2009 and has a workforce of more than 500 people.

"Through this acquisition, we have made another important step to strengthen the resilience of our supply chain," Thomas Kaufmann, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Infineon's automotive division, said.
