"I would like this appointment to serve those women who are looking for a better future in their career and to give them encouragement and courage in their next steps," Tottori said at a press conference, where Akasaka - who will be moved to an honorary position - was also present.
Tottori, who has years of experience as a flight attendant and worked as a cabin crew manager and until now, served as the airline's customer service director.
"I have been supported by many people and I hope to help create a company where everyone can get the most out of it," the new president said.
Akasaka spoke of Tottori's experience with clients and her knowledge of security as some of the capabilities that make her suitable for the job.
