JBS SA on Monday unveiled its Together for the Amazon Program, a series on initiatives to enhance conservation and development in the Amazon.

"We are publicly reiterating our commitment to the sustainability of the Amazon. We hope to scale up, not only in combating deforestation, but also in fostering the bio-economy, sustainable agriculture and social development", said Gilberto Tomazoni, global chief executive of JBS.

The company said its JBS Green Platform "will cross-check information of the company's direct suppliers with livestock transportation data from preceding links in the supply chain. By using blockchain technology, the company will guarantee the confidentiality and security of the personal, commercial and sanitary information of the producers, as well as transparency in the analyses of the suppliers."

JBS also said it would work to get its suppliers' suppliers on the JBS Green Platform by the end of 2025.

As part of its efforts, the company introduced the JBS Fund For The Amazon, which would provide financing to expand forest conservation, promote sustainable development of local communities and fund scientific and technological development.

JBS said it would contribute 250 million Brazilian reals ($44.3 million) to the fund over the first five years, and hopes, with participation from other stakeholders, to see the fund achieve a target of 1 billion reals by 2030.

Brazil's JBS is the world's largest meatpacker.
