Shares of power producers rose slightly and were close to the flat line for the year to date as traders rotated into a sector that has lagged in recent months.

One strategist said the sector is sitting at the intersection of many favorable trends, including falling interest rates, greater adoption of renewable energy and increased electricity consumption.

"Many believe energy use is going to increase," said J.D. Joyce, president of Houston financial advisory Joyce Wealth Management. "In theory, you would assume we're going to see some increase there."
