Sept 20 (Reuters) - Keurig Dr Pepper on Wednesday named packaged foods industry veteran Tim Cofer as its new chief executive, replacing Bob Gamgort.

Cofer will join the Texas-based soda maker as its chief operating officer on Nov. 6 and will report to Gamgort, before taking on the CEO role in the second quarter of 2024.

Gamgort will transition to being the company's executive chairman.

Cofer, who currently leads garden and pet supplies firm Central Garden & Pet Co, has previously held executive roles at Oreo cookies maker Mondelez International and Kraft Foods.

Keurig Dr Pepper in November last year reappointed Gamgort as its top boss after then CEO Ozan Dokmecioglu resigned following a code of conduct violation.

The company in July beat Wall Street estimates for quarterly results and forecast higher annual sales, on the back of multiple rounds of price hikes. (Reporting by Deborah Sophia in Bengaluru; Editing by Shounak Dasgupta)
