We celebrate, we praise, we reward - awards for distinguished employees of KGHM, congratulations and thanks from the most important people in the region, and great emotion accompanied the Jubilee Academy on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of KGHM. The ceremony, respecting the sanitary restrictions in force, traditionally took place in the Muza Cultural Centre in Lubin.

'KGHM's anniversary slogan 'The future is made of copper' says everything about our history and our future. The strategic importance of copper as a raw material indispensable for the world's future development offers long-term prospects. The Copper Belt and KGHM represent a past with over a billion tonnes of ore and millions more tonnes of copper ahead of us. I thank past and present staff for their dedication and hard work. Our underground city and other plants are our pride. KGHM is a company for people with courage and determination - it is a company for people like you', Marcin Chludziński, CEO of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., said to the participants of the academy.

During the ceremony, 40 employees of KGHM received state awards from the Ministers: Marzena Machałek, Krzysztof Kubow and Maciej Małecki, as well as Lower Silesian Vice Governor Jarosław Kres. The medals were awarded for exemplary, exceptionally conscientious performance of professional duties.

The Jubilee Academy was honoured by a performance by Anna Karwan and local artists from the Copper Belt.

KGHM is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of its copper mining and smelting combine, which over time has become a global player in the mining industry. To mark the anniversary, among others, a commemorative mural was created on a building of KGHM ZANAM in Legnica. The artistic design is simple in form, but refers to the mining industry in the Copper Belt. The black background is a link to the miner's formal costume. The second colour is copper, which is a strategic raw material for the company. A mural with the company logo also appeared in the centre of Warsaw. Advertisements related to the anniversary were shown, among others, in New York.

A film about KGHM was also prepared especially for the celebrations, showing among others the underground city and the discoverer of the deposits in the Copper Belt, Jan Wyżykowski. KGHM miners, smelters, rescuers and many others from the KGHM family were featured in the programme. There were also wishes for the crew from the President and the Prime Minister. The film can be viewed on the Company's YouTube channel.

We have also seen the participation of KGHM employees in the Polish Television quiz show Familiada, and the Great Test on Earth Treasures with the participation of the Głogów copper smelter brass band. It was also possible to organise ceremonial marches and concerts of orchestras from four divisions of KGHM in four cities of the Copper Belt.

In June, in turn, a mobile exhibition about KGHM will travel around the country. The special truck will arrive, among others, in Lower Silesia and cities on the Polish coast. Visitors to the exhibition will see films about the mines, smelters and ore enriching plants in the Copper Belt. The attraction will be imitation silver and gold bars and copper granules. It will be possible to touch the exhibits and check how much they weigh. There will be interesting facts about the red metal and other raw materials. As early as 19 June, the mobile exhibition will visit Wrocław's Centennial Hall.

The jubilee of KGHM is an occasion to emphasize the importance of the Company on the international stage. Thanks to the commitment of its employees, the copper giant uses new technologies, develops new mining solutions, manufactures and creates its own equipment and machinery to operate mines and smelters. The company is also developing projects related to the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in KGHM.

Despite the pandemic, KGHM is pursuing its strategy and has a defined vision for growth. The Company has photovoltaic projects and visionary plans related to Renewable Energy Sources. The copper mined by KGHM is the basis for many technological innovations, in particular those based on so-called 'green energy'. Photovoltaic power stations or electric cars, which contain 4 times more copper than combustion engines, are based on this raw material.
