Lufthansa announced Thursday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lilium for the development of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL).

The two partners explain that they intend to collaborate in areas such as ground and flight operations, future aircraft maintenance, and crew and pilot training.

Lufthansa and Lilium also intend to explore avenues of collaboration with third parties, such as airports, to design infrastructure such as vertiports, airspace integration and the definition of required operating processes.

Lilium, a German-based but Nasdaq-listed company, yesterday announced the start of production of its Lilium Jet, anticipating a European eVTOL market of some 9,200 units by 2035.
