FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Lufthansa and the flight attendants' union Ufo are still struggling to reach a collective bargaining compromise for cabin crew. "There is a problem with the money and the duration," said Ufo chairman Joachim Vazquez Bürger on Wednesday after a two-day round of negotiations. Negotiations are to continue. "But whether there will be an agreement before Easter is currently not foreseeable."

The Ufo union had demanded 15 percent more pay for the approximately 18,000 cabin staff at Lufthansa and the almost 1,000 employees of the regional subsidiary Lufthansa Cityline for a contract term of 18 months. The union also wants an inflation adjustment bonus of 3,000 euros and higher bonuses. Last week, Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline flight attendants at Frankfurt and Munich airports both staged one-day strikes. Tens of thousands of passengers were affected.

The sixth round of negotiations for airport security staff between the Verdi union and the private aviation security companies following last week's wave of warning strikes is also due to begin on Wednesday. The wage dispute between the 25,000 or so Lufthansa employees on the ground is also still unresolved. Here, Thuringia's Minister President Bodo Ramelow and the former head of the Federal Employment Agency, Frank-Jürgen Weise, are to mediate./mar/DP/stw
