McDonald's is committed to charity initiatives around the globe for the happiness of children and their families. Here in Japan, we have been celebrating McHappy Day every year since 2017 as a day to raise awareness for children battling illnesses and their families through the support of Ronald McDonald House Charities Japan (RMHC).

This year, we celebrated it as McHappy Day (Blue Mac Day) on November 6. For every Happy Meal® purchased, McDonald's donated 50 yen to RMHC and conducted in-store and online fundraising activities. We welcomed customers with in-store decorations using a lot of blue, the brand color of RMHC, on McHappy Day. A total of 74,415,783 yen was donated to RMHC from customers who supported the event from the McDonald's family as well as our customers.

McDonald's will continue to be committed to supporting RMHC to help bring smiles to the faces of children battling illnesses and their families.

In December, our system-wide sales increased by 16.8% and same-store sales increased by 15.2% year on year.

  • Gracoro®, which customers enjoy as a regular winter menu favorite, and the new Fluffy Egg Rich Demi Gracoro were sold for a limited time.
  • To help celebrate the holiday season, the popular side menu Chicken McNuggets® 15-pieces was sold at a special price of 490 yen (regular price 590 yen including tax) for a limited time with two new limited-time nugget sauces; Red Snow Crab Gratin Style Sauce and Garlic Butter Steak Sauce.
  • Beef Stew Pie, which was launched and well received by customers last year as a new warm meal pie, was reintroduced for a limited time.
  • Sales during dinner hours and base sales of ordering channels are growing steadily, supported by drive-thru and delivery services that prioritize safety and security and promote customer convenience, digital actions, a stronger focus on dinner daypart, continuation of the Value program, introduction of new menu items, as well as the implementation of marketing actions that strengthen connections with customers.

We will continue to closely monitor the COVID situation to evolve and flexibly respond to the changing needs of society and our customers. We will also continue to Feed and Foster Communities and work toward the realization of a sustainable society.
