Merck & Co. said Monday that it has received regulatory approval in Canada for an expanded indication of its human-papillomavirus vaccine Gardasil.

The U.S. pharmaceutical company said Health Canada has approved the expanded indication that covers prevention of certain cancers of the head and neck that are associated with HPV.

The company said the market authorization has been issued with conditions pending the results of trials to verify its clinical benefit.
