Recognition bonuses for full and part time Metro employees
April 15, 2021
METRO also gives paid time off for vaccination
METRO will offer bonuses to all full- and part-time store and distribution centres employees in Ontario and in Québec. This is the third such bonus METRO has offered employees who are working hard to serve the communities in which we operate.
Similar bonuses were offered in December 2020 and February 2021. Prior to these bonuses, employees were paid an additional hourly stipend of $2/hour from March 8 to June 13, 2020 as well as an additional recognition in July 2020 ranging from $100 to $200 for part-time and full-time employees.
The bonus will be paid in May as gift cards valid at any METRO banner and our frontline store and distribution centres employees are eligible as follows:
Employees working full time will receive a $300 gift card.
Employees who work an average of 15 hours per week or more will receive a $150 gift card.
Those who work an average of fewer than 15 hours per week will receive a $75 gift card.
In addition to recognition bonus, we are encouraging all our employees to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible. We are offering two hours of paid leave at the regular rate of pay for each dose of vaccine if an employee's appointment is scheduled during working hours.
METRO will also contribute to the ongoing vaccination effort in Quebec, in partnership with the National Bank, Bell, Couche-Tard and the CH Group, to support communities by offering COVID-19 vaccination clinics to its employees, their immediate family members and the community of Montreal and Brossard. These clinics will begin as soon as mass vaccination is available to the entire population and according to the order of priority established by the Quebec government, which is around the beginning of May.
METRO has also offered its contribution to the Ontario government, should it allow it, depending on the evolution of the situation and the availability of vaccines. In the meantime, we are focusing our efforts on the rollout of the vaccination in our Ontario pharmacies.
As we have done throughout the pandemic, METRO actively monitors the situation and has implemented proactive measures to protect the safety and health of our employees, while ensuring that they receive the support they need.
