NetEase Inc. said Thursday that its net profit rose 49% in the second quarter from a year earlier, as revenue from its games business rose.

The Chinese games developer posted 5.29 billion yuan ($780.1 million) of net profit for the three months ended June, compared with CNY3.54 billion in the year-earlier period. Revenue increased 13% to CNY23.16 billion, with contributions from its games and related value-added-services segment totaling CNY18.14 billion, up 15% from last year. Gross profit of that segment rose mainly because of increased net revenues from both mobile and personal-computer games, NetEase said.

The launch of "Diablo Immortal," codeveloped with Activision Blizzard, "attracted the attention of gamers around the world, showcasing our exceptional mobile game development capabilities," NetEase CEO William Ding said.
