Beirut, Sept 29 (EFE).- Former Nissan president Carlos Ghosn, who is evading the Japanese justice system, was on on Tuesday appointed as head of a program launched by a Lebanese university to mentor young entrepreneurs.

President of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik in Lebanon, Father Talal Hachem, presented the project during a press conference alongside Ghosn, who faces financial misconduct allegations in Japan.

"With Ghosn as a person in addition to his long career accomplishments he has been called an agent of change, Mr Fixer, The Magician and I will call him today if he allows me 'the agent of change'," the USEK university president said at the beginning of the conference.

Ghosn arrived in Lebanon in December after fleeing Japan, where he is accused of hiding a series of compensations agreed with Nissan Motor between 2011 and 2018 to be paid after his retirement, which are worth 9.1 billion yen ($86 million).

The prosecutor office in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris, opened two legal procedures against him; over the transfers of funds by Nissan to one of its dealers in Oman, which is suspected to have been in its private interest.

The other procedure aims at identifying who paid the expenses of his wedding, held at the Palace of Versailles on 8 October 2016.

"No one can say that Mr Carlos Ghosn is not a big success and I will not let others outside of Lebanon take advantage of his expertise, we want to use his expertise in Lebanon for our students," Father Talal said.

"We have a law department in the university and we teach 'Innocent presumption' and we cannot do the opposite of what we teach," he added.

The program will support young students and graduates who have new ideas and projects to support Lebanon on different levels such as economic, environmental and social.

The board, chaired by Ghosn, will provide advice, mentoring, business opportunities and equity investment to early stage entrepreneurs and invests through its members in any sector based on the opportunity and the impact created.

"From the beginning I said I will not be involved in politics but whoever needs help in my field I am ready and her Father Talal came and reached out to me and I offered my help," Ghosn said during Tuesday's presser.

Ghosn, a French, Lebanese and Brazilian national, declined to answer questions about his legal situation.

"I'm a businessman, today the time I have, I want to give to Lebanon and the society here and it's the best job to have," he said. EFE
