Singapore Exchange Ltd. said Wednesday it will gradually discontinue the MSCI Inc.'s equity index futures and options contracts on its exchange from next year.

The move comes on the back of a decision between the two companies to let SGX's licence agreement with MSCI expire in February 2021, the Singapore market regulator said.

"While this may have a near-term impact on our equities derivatives open interest, our multi-asset portfolio shelf has reached a critical mass," SGX Chief Executive Loh Boon Chye said.

SGX's track record in derivatives positions it to refresh and grow a suite of pan-Asian access products in a new direction, he said.

MSCI Singapore futures and options will, however, remain listed on the local bourse, SGX said.
