The Mauritian Prime Minister's Office has entrusted the consortium headed by Thales with the implementation of a national identity system.

The aim of this project is to improve the services offered to citizens and reinforce the security of their identity. It represents a key step towards a new-generation digital transformation.

As part of this ten-year contract, Thales is supplying an identity management system for the secure issuance of innovative identity cards.

Once registered, citizens will receive a new electronic identity card incorporating the latest Thales technologies and security features, including a high-resolution color photo to effectively combat identity forgery and theft.

' By bringing the complementarity of the digital companion to the physical ID card, Maurice brings together the best of both worlds, offering the optimal combination of security and convenience ' says Youzec Kurp, vice president of identity and biometrics solutions at Thales .

Mauritius' new ID system is one of the most sophisticated and marks the first implementation of a fully interoperable digital ID portfolio in Africa, in compliance with international ISO standards. This places Mauritius among the world's pioneers in identity solutions. '
