Thales: first solar-powered radar station
This radar system, designed for civil and military air traffic control, detects both slow and fast targets such as helicopters, commercial aircraft and jets.
The site will also help monitor the commercial flights operated daily by Chile's DGAC.
Located in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, at an altitude of over 3,500 metres, the station will run exclusively on sustainable energy, exploiting the region's high solar incidence.
Featuring 340 strategically positioned panels, the station has a maximum production capacity of around 960 kWh per day, covering an area of 10,000 m2.
