Thales announces that it has teamed up with SK Telecom (SKT), Korea's largest mobile operator, to successfully carry out advanced stress tests in post-quantum cryptography.

Based on a standalone 5G network and a 5GSIM, the solution aims to securely encrypt and decrypt subscriber identities, protecting users' privacy from future quantum threats.

It also protects subscribers against the risk of 'record now, decrypt later' attacks. ''This represents a major breakthrough since this solution enables subscriber identity to be protected on the 5G network,'' Thales points out.

Given that quantum computers have the potential to break certain existing cryptographic algorithms, it becomes necessary to switch to cryptographic algorithms considered secure against quantum attacks," said Eva Rudin, Senior Vice President, Mobile Connectivity & Solutions at Thales.
