The Times won the Polk Award for Financial Reporting, honoring Russ Buettner, Susanne Craig and Mike McIntire for their investigation into Donald J. Trump's taxes.

'Donald Trump's tax returns were the large and long-hidden missing piece of the public's understanding of Donald Trump's finances,' said Matt Purdy, deputy managing editor, who oversaw the project with Paul Fishleder, senior editor, Investigations. 'Russ, Sue and Mike's ability to obtain and analyze mountains of tax data was an investigative triumph and a capstone on The Times reporting on Donald Trump's finances over several years.'

Their stories were accompanied by detailed and stunning visualization of Trump's finances over time by Gabriel Dance and Keith Collins.

The package of stories submitted for the award also included a major investigation showing how President Trump profited privately as people with an interest in the decisions of administration patronized his resorts and golf courses. That investigation was based on a comprehensive database assembled by Karen Yourish and the article, which drew on the tax data, was produced by a team of journalists led by Nick Confessore.
