Ensuring beautiful hometowns and a beautiful world are preserved well into the future

Since its foundation, Toyota has handed down the Five Main Principles of Toyoda, and has been working on environmental initiatives since the 1960s. In 2015, the year when the Paris Agreement was adopted at COP21*, Toyota announced the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, a long-term initiative regarding the global environment until 2050.

On the other hand, from a global perspective, people's awareness of climate change is rising more than ever due to the damages caused by natural disasters including heat waves, floods, large typhoons and droughts in various regions. Many issues that threatens the lives of people all over the world relates to each other in a complex way. To solve these issues, the world started moving to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Toyota also needs to change. For a sustainable future beyond 2030, Toyota will never stop challenging. Based on the idea that our challenges will also lead to solve various issues, we will accelerate our environmental initiatives.

Announcement of the new BEV series, Toyota bZ

Today, countries around the world are declaring their goals in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

To realize carbon neutrality, the automotive industry is trying to take on the challenge of enhancing its long-established fuel and engine technologies or its composite technologies that combine these technologies, as well as further enhancing and popularizing its vehicle electrification technologies. Toyota has undertaken to establish a full line-up of electrified vehicles* and thereby offer its customers in each region diverse choices, targeting carbon neutrality.

In April 2021, Toyota announced its new BEV series, Toyota bZ, which was established utilizing our experience in developing electrification technologies for the past 25 years or more. We unveiled a concept version of the Toyota bZ4X, which is the first model in the bZ series, at the Auto Shanghai 2021 in China. We will introduce 15 BEVs, including 7 Toyota bZ models, by 2025.

We cannot achieve carbon neutrality in mobility unless we reduce CO2emissions during all processes of 'manufacturing,' 'logistics,' 'driving,' and 'disposal and recycling.' We need to work hand in hand with various stakeholders including national governments and industry organizations to realize this, and Toyota will further commit to this cooperation.

We hope to further reduce CO2emissions through technologies based on a sustainable and practical approach.

* Electrified vehicles refer to HEVs, PHEVs, BEVs and FCEVs

Introduction of the Toyota Environmental Program for Kids (dragonfly ver.)

Toyota has been conducting environmental educational activities to foster children responsible for the future to have a sense of ownership and take action on environmental issues. As one of the activities, we have prepared the 'Toyota Environmental Program for Kids (dragonfly ver.).' We used dragonflies as the main theme of this program, since they are in the middle of the ecosystem, so to speak, a standard living creature in the ecosystem. Let's think about the current situation that dragonflies are in, and the impact of human life on the environment in a fun manner through the 'problem-solving game' and 'three-panel cartoon.'

You can download the simplified version of this program and apply for educational materials from the following website

This program is a part of the ESD* Project based on the policy of 'Challenge of Establishing a Future Society in Harmony with Nature,' which is one of the goals in the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050.
