Audi said Thursday that Gernot Doellner will replace Markus Duesmann as chief executive officer on Sept. 1.

The Volkswagen-owned car maker said Doellner will strengthen the company's product strategy and its position in important markets.

"Shaping Audi's role as an independent brand with entrepreneurial autonomy within the framework of the VW Group will be of primary importance," deputy Chairman Peter Mosch said.

Volkswagen emphasized autonomy for its brands at its recent capital markets day meeting.

Doellner has been with Volkswagen since 1993 and since 2021 has overseen the group's product and group strategy, Audi said.
