On Wednesday January 31, 2024, Vichy Communauté, Suez and Waga Energy inaugurated the WAGABOX® biomethane production unit at the Gaïa waste storage facility in Cusset (Allier).

Using technology developed and patented by Waga Energy, this is the first installation of its kind in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

The biogas produced by this fermentation is valorized by a cogeneration engine which produces electricity and heat, which is used to heat the site's administrative building.

The installation extracts the methane contained in the biogas to produce biomethane, whose characteristics are identical to those of natural gas. This renewable gas is injected directly into the gas distribution network of the town of Cusset.

' The WAGABOX® unit, operational since October 2, 2023, after a year's work, recovers 100% of the biogas produced on the site. This energy replaces fossil fuels and avoids the emission of 2,800 tonnes of CO2 per year', says the group.
