Jurgens, 61, was until last September chief information officer for the U.S. entertainment company, having between 2015 and 2020 worked as chief technology officer at multinational mining and metals company BHP.

The bank also said that Gay Huey Evans and Carlson Tong, independent non-executive directors, will retire from the board.

StanChart is due to report its full-year results for 2023 next Friday, with investors hoping it can rebound from a disappointing third quarter update last October when its profit plunged on a hit from exposure to Chinese real estate.
