Zoom Into the 2021 Sundance Film Festival

January 27, 20212 min read

Each January, Park City, Utah, hosts the largest independent film festival in the United States, the Sundance Film Festival. This world-class event is an important opportunity for independent filmmakers around the world to showcase their work and connect with other creators. While COVID-19 prevented a traditional in-person festival in Utah, the proverbial show must go on!

Sundance is hosting this year's event, which runs Jan. 28-Feb. 3, digitally through a platform organizers custom-designed and built. Within that platform, Zoom will be used to connect artists to audiences in live premiere screening Q&A's as well as other gatherings. We are honored to serve as the Official Unified Communications Platform Partner for the Festival and to support the production of this year's event as an Official Sustaining Sponsor.

Here are a few ways we're supporting this year's Sundance Film Festival:

Planning the festival

Hosting the Sundance Film Festival digitally for the first time is no small feat, requiring a highly coordinated effort from the professionals at the Sundance Institute, as well as their partners and peers. We teamed up with Sundance to capture the immense, behind-the-scenes efforts required to bring this iconic festival to the digital space. Get a sneak peek here:

Live virtual events

To help organizers bring the magic of Sundance to the digital space, Zoom is providing video communications services for this year's event. Event organizers will be using Zoom to bring Sundance's live auxiliary events to attendees, including all premiere screening live Q&A sessions.

Content at the Zoom Chalet

Zoom has become the go-to platform for professionals across the world to carry on their work in these unprecedented times, including those in the film industry. To help support the work of hardworking filmmakers, we've set up the 'Zoom Chalet,' a virtual venue where attendees can enjoy custom content about the art of film production, including articles and videos showcasing best practices for using Zoom for your next production.
