ABB-free@home® upgrades designed for smarter living Press release | Zurich, Switzerland | 2020-07-15

With the market for smart home solutions expected to grow from USD 45.8 billion in 2017 to more than USD 114 billion by 2025*, ABB launches a package of new upgrades for its successful ABB-free@home® system.

Home safety and energy efficiency are two key drivers influencing ABB's latest smart home solutions. With over five million of its ABB-free@home® components already installed in more than 40 countries worldwide, ABB launches a raft of extensions to cater for increasing demand for Internet of Things (IoT) technology within smart homes.

ABB-free@home® Next app

For added performance, the new ABB-free@home® Next app gives homeowners total control of their smart home solutions from a mobile device, from checking if windows have been left open, to switching off lights or turning up room temperatures.

The app, which is much faster and more intuitive than previous versions, has been developed in response to user experience needs and allows customers to manage the full suite of ABB-free@home® applications from any mobile device.

With ABB-free@home® Next, smart home systems can now be easily configured, with options to change daily routines, timers, scenes and filter functionality for each room with just one click. The app also features an easy to read dashboard overview that shows key performance indicators at a glance.

ABB-free@home® hardware devices

The latest ABB-free@home® DALI Gateway allows DALI lighting to be easily integrated into any ABB-free@home® system, without the need for a separate USB programming device, or additional DALI power supply.

For homes with Split Unit air-conditioning systems, ABB introduces its new ABB-free@home® Split Unit Gateway to the solution. This allows for greater control over energy usage as spaces can be cooled as and when required, via an infrared remote control or a sensor on the wall or the app.

With the new ABB-free@home® weather station solution for Multi Apartment Buildings, a simple USB interface can now be used to connect a single weather station to all apartments with ABB-free@home® systems.

ABB-free@home® home appliance connection

Taking convenience to the next level, customers with Home Connect from major brands can now integrate home appliances from major brands Bosch, Gaggenau, Neff and Miele@home from Miele into scenes and connect their functionality to wall sensors and touch panels. Connected and compatible home appliances, such as washing machines, coffee makers or ovens, now appear with dedicated icons in the ABB-free@home® app.

Partnership with Olisto

Leveraging its open API platform, ABB announces a partnership with Olisto that allows users to integrate with its app. The cooperation offers endless connection possibilities, including links with additional services such as Sonos and Spotify. It also provides the potential to create rules, building real time connections between multiple devices, apps and services in any home.

ABB-free@home® works with Hey Google**

For added convenience, ABB-free@home® now works with Hey Google for voice control of your connected devices. Just say 'Hey Google' to get started.

Oliver Iltisberger, Managing Director of ABB's Smart Buildings Division, comments: 'These new additions offer huge possibilities for smart home users, making their lives easier and more comfortable than ever before. It is part of our broader vision for smarter living, where technology works in partnership with consumers to create energy and user efficient spaces for the future.'
