Ranging from 5G to cloud, GlobalData, a leading data analytics company lists five of the top tweeted terms in telecom in Q3 2019, based on data research from the company's Influencer platform.

1. 5G - 3,264 mentions

5G is expected to be 100 times faster than 4G, enabling high-definition videos to be downloaded within seconds. It will enable phone batteries to last longer and consume less power, while enabling medical assistance anywhere and anytime. A video from the World Economic Forum shared by Vala Afshar, Chief Digital Evangelist at Salesforce, a software company, describes the various advantages of 5G.

On 11 July, @ValaAfshar tweeted: '15 technologies of next decade 1 AI 2 IoT 3 blockchain 4 3D print 5 mobile 6 autonomous cars 7 mobile internet 8 robotics 9 VR/AR 10 wireless power 11 quantum computing 12 5G 13 voice assistant 14 cybersecurity 15 cloud', which collected 616 likes and 395 retweets.

Moreover, Evan Kirstel shared a video detailing how 5G will enable millions of connections and transmit data in near real-time.

2. Smartphone - 447 mentions

Rising domestic demand for smartphones and the ongoing trade war with the US is forcing Chinese manufacturers to move production elsewhere.

On 2 September, @evankirstel tweeted: 'China's quickly losing its position as the world's smartphone factory', which saw six likes and seven retweets.

Meanwhile, the newest drone from the French company Parrot Drones comes equipped with First-person view (FPV) goggles along with a headset that places the user in the drone's perspective.

3. The Internet of Things (IoT) - 381 mentions

Several companies are joining forces to develop products that address cyber security issues. For instance, Skkynet and Siemens Mobility have signed an agreement to combine secure industrial IoT hardware and software.

On 27 September, @rtehrani tweeted: '.@ShieldIOT Raises $3.6 Million Seed Round http://bit.ly/2nmxs97 #mobile #catm1 #nbiot #lpwan #lora #iiot #iot #cellular #smartcity #m2m @TMCnetDAVE #health #mwca18 #DCPIoT #Industry40 @IoTEvolution @alwaysoncarl @KenBriodagh #5G #mwc19', which gained two likes and six retweets.

IoT devices are projected to account for a majority of bluetooth shipments by 2024. As a result, speakers, headsets, smartwatches, and activity trackers will account for a majority of the market.

4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) - 321 mentions

The application of AI in fields including enterprise resource planning (ERP) was highlighted in Q3 2019. AI can be used for automation and data analytics to streamline processes and eliminate redundant tasks.

On 2 September, @TamaraMcCleary tweeted: 'How #AI in #ERP impacts businesses https://www.khaleejtimes.com/how-ai-in-erp-impacts-businesses … #mobile', which collected 15 likes and 13 retweets.

Meanwhile, researchers at Princeton University are working on creating an artificial brain based on a light-based neural network to improve AI. The artificial brain mimics the functioning of neurons in the brain and transmits light waves through silicon pathways. This will enable an AI-based machine to calculate 2,000 times faster than the normal processors.

5. Cloud - 250 mentions

Many companies are investing in cloud-based software and improving their data infrastructure to meet the needs of the future. The US defense information systems agency, the Pentagon, awarded a $7.6bn contract to General Dynamics Information Technology to supply cloud based email and business software.

On 1 September, @evankirstel tweeted: 'GDIT wins $7.6B Pentagon business software cloud contract https://fcw.com/articles/2019/08/29/deos-awarded-csra-microsoft.aspx … #Telecom #Networks #Telco #Cloud #Telecoms #Mobile #Wireless #Broadband', which attracted five retweets.

Separately, China Telecom is working on combining 5G, cloud, and AI to develop an intelligent IoT network that creates an intelligent IoT platform.
